Condom ads targeted in diplomatic wrangle
I guess I interpret "idolise" differently. While those 14 Class Awar criminals are controversially enshrined at Yasukuni Shrine, soare all Japanese soldiers who died in World War 2. Following theenshrinement of the war criminlas, the then emperor Hirohitorefused to visit the shrine. By that reckoning, you could arguethat Japan reviles its war criminals.
While I think it is wrong and insensitive for Japan's leaders tovisit the shrine, it's also wrong to assume their reasons for goingare to pay respects to war criminals. It may be they just want topay their respects to the other soldiers who were forced to givetheir lives for a corrupt and hopeless dream.
"The shrine is a symbolic structure of Japan"
Only to non-Japanese. It's a place of little interest to mostJapanese, and is generally a hang out for extreme right-wingnutters who like to parade around in black trucks and buses. Themost symbolic structure of Japan these days is Tokyo Disneyland.
