Food Retailers, Producers Weigh on Regional Indexes
European shares rose Friday as cheer from U.S. banking giantCitigroup's better-than-expected results offset downbeat news onsales and earnings trends from Belgium supermarket group Delhaizeand French cosmetics firm L'Oreal.
The pan-European Dow Jones Stoxx 600 index moved higher through thesession, trading up 1.1% after U.S. financial giant Citigroupreported better-than-expected second-quarter results.
The German DAX 30 index rose 1.4% to 6360.74, the U.K.'s FTSE 100index climbed 1.3% to 5352.30 and the French CAC-40 index gained0.8% to 4259.15.
